My name is Vanessa Brassey.
I am a Doctor of Philosophy and a Lecturer in Philosophy at King's College, London. I teaching undergraduate students Ethics, Philosophy, Philosophy and Philosophy of Health and Wellbeing. I I also teach MA students, Ethics and Philosophy of Art. My research lies at the intersection of the Philosophy of Art and the Philosophy of Perception. In my thesis, 'What Makes a Painting sad?', I investigate the expression of emotion in paintings. The systematic question animating my thesis is: what are the conditions that make seeing emotions in a painting possible? The answer involves unpacking an under-theorised feature of the phenomenon, namely perspective. The thesis includes the usual romp through the existing literature.
I am a Co-Director and regular contributor to the Centre for Philosophy & Visual Art which you can find out more about here.
I also paint. I catalogue my pictures on instagram and over here . Please email for enquiries/commissions/orders. I ship internationally.
