What do we leave behind when we travel? And what do we carry with us?

Painting on a found book jacket

I'm delighted to be showing the first works from my new Jacket collection at MAK 2026 in Brussels.

Last summer I decided to buy a travel easel, pack a bag, and take off on a series of outdoor paintings trips. To ease the fear of the blank canvas, I bought several metres of vintage books from ebay (you can buy them by the metre). I then proceeded to rip them up, and prepare the covers for quick outdoor painting sessions. Soon after, I realised my paintings were strangely echoing the titles on the found books - or in some way spoke to them. Moreover, I became fascinated with the book formats, the possibilities of book jackets, and vivid memories of reading for hours as a child. Before phones. Before FOMO.  Now, they have become the starting point for a new series of porcelain objects.

The collection title Jacket is a playful nod to the siren call of a well designed book jacket.

Each painting is connected to a particular place, journey, artist, or story. Some are inspired by the writings and reflections of women painters. Others from motifs associated with where I was at the time.

Each piece is an original work.
